Wife Batterer’s Syndrome is not a common term anymore ever since states passed more laws protecting women and also since divorces have become as easy as clicking and calling your nearest or favorite lawyer’s office. That’s a good thing for those of you reading who were born in the 21st century. In times past, up to a couple generations ago, this was a common syndrome among American marriages (and most everywhere in the world). Here is what it meant:
In a world where Women, even married Women up to the 20th century, had limited legal protection, a husband with anger issues (a “temper” it used to be called) would beat on his wife for almost any reason – even when it was not preempted by a wife’s behavior! Furthermore, that same wife would defend her husband if somebody confronted him about his abuse!
I am not attempting to go into the psychology on this phenomenon because it was complex and convoluted but I will attempt to equate it with the Stockholm Syndrome and then relate that to the American Electorate (that would be YOU, the reader!)
What is the Stockholm Syndrome?
The Stockholm Syndrome was a research study attempt to explain the relationship between a Captor and their prisoner(s) and the Prisoner’s bonding to their Captor(s). Sound familiar already? Unlike the Wife Batterer’s Syndrome, the Captors and Prisoners are not wed together for life. A wife is free to leave… but like the first syndrome, they both attempt to justify their Abusers! And they both have a use of Force involved.
At this point, I am simply going to go to my favorite source for medical information, Web MD, which has an entry for Stockholm Syndrome (because Medicine also covers Psychological issues, in part). Under Stockholm Syndrome symptoms, they list (and I quote):
- Affection for or attachment to the abuser
- Attempting to help the abuser (! My addition here)
- Distrust of or anger toward those trying to extract them from that situation
- Rationalizing abuse
- Feeling powerless[1]
As you can see, some of these things are in common with the Wife Batterer’s Syndrome. If I were writing a thesis paper on this and explaining the commonalities and differences, it might be an interesting read but I am a PolySci graduate and I want to get ahead of this deranged behavior that may soon be upon us and the problem isn’t the System – it is YOU, the Elector!
“O.k., so what is your connection and your point??”
My point that I am racing to advance is that the vast majority of Americans do not want a Biden vs. Trump rematch in 2024[2] and yet, that seems to be where it is going at this point in January 2024! This is a self-fulfilling prophesy people! What is wrong with you?? Especially you self-proclaimed Independents…
I haven’t heard it yet but if these indeed become the two party’s choices, we will soon hear (as I read in the 2nd reference above), “oh my, we have to pick between the lesser of two evils”!
Before I conclude this article, I am going to say a few things:
REALLY?!? You HAVE TO pick between two evil men?!?
Two, who’s putting a gun to your head??
Three, unlike other presidential elections since 1992, we actually have a legitimate third choice this year – Robert Kennedy Jr.
If you are some numbskull who is going to say he can’t win because he didn’t spend millions to get his name on the ballot, I will simply say: “well that didn’t stop New Hampshirites from making Joe Biden the primary winner in their state – they had to write in his name!” Using your logic, Dean Phillips or Marianne Williamson should have won the New Hampshire primary; they didn’t!
RFK Jr. is not “electable”?!? Really?!?!? Seriously, a Kennedy is not “electable”?!?
The Primary Problem in American Elections
Again, as a Political Science graduate, I will affirm that our Electoral System DOES have problems that DO need to be changed but our Democracy is not being broken by the Republican Party that our current president is so fond of repeating. No, the primary problem of continually electing “evil” presidents falls in the lap of YOU, the Electorate.
That is what Democracy is!! The vote of “The People”
So what is the (immediate) solution? Don’t enable your “Abuser” (more on that below).
When there are local elections with no contenders to someone who is the only person on the ballot, you know what I do? I leave it blank or put in someone’s name who is eligible to be in that office. Usually I leave it blank because doing so does NOT invalidate your ballot! It’s saying, “I don’t agree with the choices”, period.
But to connect with the two syndrome’s I spoke about earlier, if you can’t see that you, the Electorate, aren’t the prisoner or wife in these situations, you will not stop enabling the Abusers, which I call the Duopoly Party system itself and their leaders:
- (Biden voters) “Look, he is just old. I am too or will be someday…”- Affection for the Abuser
- (Trump voters) “Look at the way the Government (currently under Democratic control) is persecuting him” – Attachment toward the Abuser
- (Biden voters) “Damn media is always showing his shortfalls” –attempting to help the Abuser
- (Trump voters) “Damn media only shows his shortfalls” – attempting to help the Abuser
- “We don’t have any other choice; we have to pick one of two” – feeling helpless and rationalizing abuse
- “You’re throwing away your vote if you pick a third party person” – rationalizing abuse
Again I say: you are empowering the Abuser which is the Two-party system and their party heads.
Conclusions
Engage the System with full awareness of what you are getting into (meaning: question the Media who feeds your head and heart) or detach yourself from the situation! Don’t be a Victim!
You can also look at Elections as buying a new car at full price: don’t get attached to the car you want or else that is when the Car Salesman/woman has you! When they have you, they control your money!
Think it is the end of the world if you don’t vote for one of the two party choices?? Sorry, that won’t work this time; we have had both men as presidents and we are still here!!
Finally, as I will remind Readers of alternativeinterpretations.com, if you are truly in fear that one president or another will be the end of everything (whatever that means to you), trust in
YHVH and his son, Yeshua (a.k.a Jesus, Issa). We already have a Savior for Mankind; we don’t need another one – nor can anyone else save us from “choosing between two evils”…
