Transgenderism and “God”

Welcome

Welcome Transgender people; this is your corner of the website. For purposes of this webpage, we are not speaking to all people of the LGBTQ+ crowd but specifically those who identify as Transgender, non-Binary or Agender.

You were most likely born in the 21st century; a century quite complex, chaotic, diverse and full of both opportunities and danger. Music and Video and TV streaming abound like never before. It is quite a comical thing to think that roughly 60 years ago, in our country, there were only a handful of TV stations and TV was still black and white! And that was in our country – the rest of the world had fewer stations and hardly any TVs! Genetics was still in its infancy; GM food was just beginning and you might still be required to wear jackets, ties or skirts to public school! It was a very different world indeed. Every generation is different to be sure but one generation to the next is even more distinct nowadays because of technology. The more Technology abounds, the more different succeeding generations will be.

It’s Life.

You have feelings, desires and hopes like everyone else does. As you live life, the more those feelings, desires and hopes will evolve and deepen or fade away. The one thing we all have in common is that we are All Human; Humanity has hopes and aspirations. That is the way we were made. Aspiring for something means we are looking for something more, beyond ourselves. You might call it Exploration. A now deceased Great Astronomer and Scientist of the 20th century said:

“The passion to explore is at the heart of being human.”

Carl Sagan, who said the above, looked to the stars and created hypotheses as to how Life was created. We are just now, in this Day and Age, beginning to explore other planetary bodies but the biggest exploration that you and I will do in our lifetime will be to explore the universe within us! What are our hopes, feelings and desires? Why do we feel that way? What really drives us??

Part of the blessing and challenge of being human is that we must discover our own true nature. – Mark Nepo

How true! When we know who we are and what makes us tick, then we can run towards success in life!

Nothing new under the Sun

An ancient, famous Philosopher-king named Shlomo once said, “There is nothing new under the sun…” and then he went on to describe what he was musing about: he said that there wasn’t anything new that Humanity experienced. Everything that seems “new” he was saying, existed before, even if we weren’t aware of it.

Because this is the Transgender Corner, we want it to be known that the “transgender phenomena”, is nothing new either!

“How so?”, you might say.

Just because a term didn’t exist before doesn’t mean that Transgenderism didn’t exist! Humanity has always had transgenders but they weren’t acknowledged as such. Let us go back just one generation (maybe a generation and a half as of this writing):

When I grew up, there were certain “odd” people in our school class. There were boys who seemed like less than “boys” and there were “girls” who seemed like less than “girls”. And when you talk to your parents or grandparents, you will find that they had “odd classmates” in their time also. There is no reason to think that this didn’t exist going way back, as we’ll muse about in a moment but first, let’s consider what these people were called since the term “transgender” didn’t exist before the 21st century:

In my generation (and I am not speaking as some old goat, well past his age, I still have some youth left…), the weird boys in our class might be called “sissies” or “faggots” or “queers” or “momma’s boy”. The girls might be called a “Tom boy” or “she-man”. Girls didn’t have as many slurs as boys because females are more apt to conform so as not to be picked on whereas an odd boy is like a sheep among wolves; the personal attacks continue until they are out of school.

Let us consider some of these terms: first, these are the ones I am aware of. Every locale and region may have had other terms. Secondly, the practice of slurring or slandering has been around forever therefore to say that Transgenderism is “new” is completely untrue. One only need to investigate what was a slur in their time and you will find which people were out of favour in public. Thirdly, whereas queer, homosexual and transgender are distinct terms now, people would not have discerned these differences in times past. A “faggot” is a term for a homosexual but every boy who was called that may not necessarily have been homosexual. Merely having a label would keep the guy from having a girlfriend thus, the term was reinforcing an untrue reality.

Look at History; History is always relevant to the present in some way. Could it be that some men or women in history were transgender? Two women come to mind that makes one wonder if they struggled with identity or if they were trying to move beyond their gender roles:

One is Joan of Arc of France from the 14th century, the girl who joined the French army who was fighting the English at the time. She dressed like a man, was accepted as one and became the leader among the French forces and a heroine even after they found out he was a she! We should not jump to false conclusions about historical figures though. As Bill Maher said on a Real Time show clip recently, just because she wore trousers doesn’t mean she was queer or transgender – trousers were standard battlefield gear. And what he means to say is that even if she wore trousers all the time, she was trying to hide her female identity and be ready for battle at all times.

Another lesser-known woman who may have been transgender was another female leader named Devorah of the Bible. She was a Judge over the ancient Hebrew people before they first became a nation. She is found in the book of Judges and in a day and culture when only men became leaders or judges, she stands out as another exceptional female leader who could have been more masculine in order to be accepted by a nation for a leader.

And this leads nicely to a sore subject among transgender crowds (that shouldn’t be) – the concept of “G-o-d”. I write it like that because secular Westerners think that the Judeo-Christian “God” is some monolithic, unquestionable subject that you can’t question. I would like to take a moment to unpack this most misunderstood subject by demythologizing what this God is not:

Elohim the Creator

Firstly, when a people say they “know” God and say untrue statements about that god, then they are misrepresenting that god. Christians are renown for speaking about “God” monolithically, as if ALL religions called their deities “God”. Which leads to the second point:

Secondly, “God” is NOT the personal name what he called himself. It is more of a description like an adjective but not an adjective but a titular noun like the word “King” or “Your Majesty”.

Thirdly, and most importantly to the Transgender world, just because humanity has used gender terms to describe their gods (speaking of the whole panoply of them here) doesn’t mean they are necessarily a “he” or “she”, especially where the Judeo-Christian God is concerned. I bet you never thought of that did you?? “God(s)” by their very nature, are not beings that have interacted with humanity in the flesh. Since most people have never met their Maker, people have called their personal god either “he” or “she” because that is who we are, innately, as the human race! From time immemorial, we have called our Creator(s) “He” or “She” and we even called ALL things in our creation, “he” or “she”. It is built into our languages; most languages, that is! You can say it is a bias and by golly – you would be right!!

But here is the kicker of this whole subject….

Since Western civilization is the dominant paradigm on planet earth and since the dominant “G-o-d” of that culture is the Jewish or Christian one, I am going to tell you something that you will never hear from a Jew or Christian:

  1. There IS a Creator of Life named “YHVH” (vowels not supplied because the spelling is disputed); what you have been taught about Evolution and whether you believe in it or not has no bearing on this subject. For the moment, all I will say is that All things have a Beginning and End and all of life is self-evident of this….
  2. The thing that you will never, ever hear from a Jew or Christian is that YHVH, our Creator – yours and mine – is not a “man” or “he” as is commonly articulated by each sect!

How do I know this?? Would you believe that their Book, the Bible, actually reveals what YHVH is?

Wouldn’t you like to know it because it is not at all what you have heard…?

The nature of Elohim

It is quite likely that you have heard this biblical passage read (or yelled) at you before and you have grown to hate it because the Christian uses it to defend their worldview but I will print it again here and show you something very sublime about our Creator that you probably never noticed before. You needn’t go past the very first chapter of the Bible, Genesis, to find this:

So Elohim created man in his own image, in the image of Elohim he created him; male and female He created them.

Let’s unpack what seems like such a “self-evident” set of statements:

  1. I have replaced “God” with “Elohim” in this passage because declaring who “God” is and what he does is not even remotely agreed upon by Messianics, Christians and Jews. “Elohim” is the original word for a “God” but since the concept of “G-O-D” is so corrupted among the Judeo-Christian faiths, it would be better to go back to the basic word instead of looking through prejudicial lenses.
  2.  “So Elohim created man in his own image…”; it says “his own” image but we will come back to this statement just below…
  3. “in the image of Elohim he created him” – “him” here refers to Man(kind) which is always written in the male gender because like all the Romance languages, it really refers to men and women, as we see in 4….
  4. “male and female He created them.”

I am going to stop here for a moment and make you look at this last statement in a way you, Transgender person, never saw it – nor any religious Believer for that matter!

You may see this as the beginning of a social, binary system but I would ask you to look deeper than this….

It says Elohim created them in Elohim’s own image. Which is that?!?

YHVH Elohim created “male AND female”. Since elsewhere in the Book it says God is One Elohim, that means YHVH Elohim is male and female.

The Creator of Mankind is not a “he” nor a “she” but is Both!! The God of the Western world is beyond Gender – or as you would say, “Transgender”!!!

Can you believe this?!? How is it that no one has ever told you this?? Especially a Jew or Christian?

Take a moment to marvel at this….

The nature of our Creator YHVH Elohim is a subject deeper than any philosopher or theologian has gone. Honestly, if Messianics, Christians and Jews (the three proponents of Yawistic religion) can’t agree on the nature of Elohim, then no one else will this side of eternity…. BUT, that doesn’t mean the Transgender population can’t understand “it”.

Here’s a few more basic ideas about Elohim’s nature:

I wouldn’t ever call Elohim an “it”. If you live long enough, you will have a spiritual encounter and you will “know” that the Creator is Personal, not a spiritless “It.”

Also, if you read the rest of the Bible, you will find that Elohim has a female descriptive (Eloah) and that the Spirit of Elohim can be either male or female. Does this surprise you? It doesn’t me because YHVH said that YHVH is way, way above Mankind – and that includes subjects of gender identity!

Oh yeah… and you won’t be able to verify the above in your English, Spanish, or other Bibles; only in the original Hebrew.  Most Bibles are like our modern news Media; they Hide things more than they reveal!

A Future and Destiny

Regardless of what you identify as your gender, you have a future life and destiny. That’s right; regardless of whether you think the earth is getting too warm for life or not, YOU have a future.

Why can I say this?

Because the One who created you said so and the Bible, a recording of Elohim’s words, reveals that you can have a life regardless of what happens to planet earth.

“Yeah but I ain’t religious”, you might say. I realise that. Just because the people of the Book don’t respect you doesn’t mean that their Book is a Lie. “Saints” (Belivers in YHVH and/or Yeshua, Jesus) are not perfect; they just “believe”, they just “have faith” and even that is imperfect!

Yes, there is a difference between being Spiritual and Religious and for the moment, you needn’t worry about the difference. You should only care about where you are going and how to get there!

Before we go any further, I feel it necessary to address the concept of creation, namely us.

You have heard it said that you were created by “God” and that would be true – almost! I am not going to stump for Evolution, which is a fanciful hypothesis* BUT, I will tell you why “Elohim made you who you are” “created you” is not an absolutely true statement and here’s why:

Elohim created everything we see: the planet, people, animals, plant life, the weather and so on, ad infinitum but She also created Natural laws that would allow Living Beings to procreate and regenerate without her personal attention 24/7. In this manner, we can say Elohim is a Deist, a word philosophers created to describe a Creator who isn’t involved with her Creation anymore. The other word philosophers created was “theist” who is a god that IS involved with his/her Creation every day. I wouldn’t say that either is wrong but that they are both right. And here’s where it gets really complex…

Our scientific understanding has evolved so much that WE are now able to affect Life on planet Earth. That makes US an Elohim/god too! THE Elohim, YHVH, created us but now, we are able to manipulate that Creation so when a Believers says, “You were created…”so and so, this is a true statement but not necessarily true absolutely. The greater question for both spiritual and scientific understanding is what have WE done, if anything, towards the created Order?? This is so important a question that it will be taken up under a different article.

*I say “hypothesis” rather than “theory” because Evolution has not attained to Theory status since ALL scientific theories must be testable.

The Seed analogy

For now, we will look at the Creation as it was designed – and mind you, no biology textbook is going to dispute the following analogy. Science and the Bible agree on this basis:

Life does not come from Nothingness; everything has a Beginning. Non-religious scientists are constantly trying to theorize the Beginning of humanity and the best they have come up with is a hypothesis of (macro)evolution based on the science of paleontology, in which even scientific author Matt Ridley (“Genome” p.35) admits is built on “a scientific house of cards on the flimsiest foundations of evidence”. No different than Religions who don’t try to base anything on science.

So why do we fight about Creations vs. Evolution all the time?

I don’t know because they are both faith-based. Probably because we are talking about OUR beginnings or genesis.

Why don’t we argue about something that we CAN agree upon? Honestly, I can’t understand why religious and secular Americans can’t argue about something that can be resolved. Such as our collective Beginning…

Nobody argues about where tree and plants came from. Nobody declares that we descended from the trees or plants of the field so I will use this to talk about our Beginning.

Plant life came from other plants. Every living plant (and yes, every Biologist will agree that plants are “living”) must by definition have a seed*. We know now that seed contain DNA and DNA is the “ingredient” by which a seed knows how to make a plant, a plant! DNA is called the “instruction book” or the “master blueprint” for any given species.

So a seed, if put in the ground or treated water, will soon crack and sprout a budding stalk. The stalk will produce the tiniest of leaves (or leaf) and then it will produce more branches and more leaves until it is mature enough to produce a seed (more properly “seeds”).

*seed: all seed is made to procreate but mankind has been able to produce sterile Seed in the past couple generations. Whether this is “kosher” or beneficial is highly, highly debatable! There are reasons why it was done that goes beyond the scope of this topic.

Every created thing has hardware and software

So far, there is nothing to contest whether you’re purely scientific or purely religious. All can agree that this is a very basic life cycle of a plant.

In our understanding of Nature, we have made analogies between naturally created things and manmade things. One such analogy we can make is that Nature and manmade things act like computers. Take the DNA: we say that DNA acts like computer “code”. Computer “code” is software that helps the User “create” a program; a program does something automatically or when something is “inputed”. If you are a computer science major, you know that there are hundreds of computer applications in the computer world alone, never mind the programs used in biology, finances, government, chemistry and so on. In this point of history, there are thousands and tens of thousands when you add in foreign language applications! So it is with Nature: Nature has built in Coding for different kinds of beans, lettuces, trees, shrubs, etc.

And if you haven’t noticed, here is another analogy between us and Nature: every created thing has “software” and “hardware”. We are all familiar with software because we interact with it every day. Software is pliable, adaptable and tells us how to do something or does something automatically (like calculating complex math in an instant – thank God huh?!).

Hardware is not given much thought because even though we interact with it daily, we take this part for granted, and understandably so: hardware is not so pliable and adaptable and it doesn’t do things for us like calculate. Let us look at the difference between the two for a moment:

Brains are software; the head or skull is hardware (literally in this case)

Mac and PC (Microsoft) is hardware; iWork, Office and Open Office are all software

A GM, Ford, Toyota, Honda is hardware; their engine computers are software

A house is mostly hardware; the bedding, clothing and kitchenware that fills it is software

These are all examples. Every created thing can be defined in this way. And if this wasn’t enough, all created things have rules or principles as to how it works.

This brings a natural end to this first thesis. The conclusion of this topic is that:

  1. You are a human being, not some alien child. You have the same feelings, desires and wishes as all other human beings; the same needs too.
  2. Because you are human, you were created with an identity by a transgender Elohim.
  3. This Elohim created plants, animals and humans, all who have Hardware and Software built into them that is called DNA.
  4. DNA is the instruction book or blueprint for every living being

From here, we will explore identities and the blueprints for Life.  If you would like to discuss this or your situation further, please contact me anytime.
